18th century French ship engraving

A beautiful 18th century ship engraving, these boats were mostly fishing vessels designed to navigate shallow waters. Engraved by Robert Bénard, an 18th-century French engraver mainly famous for having supplied a significant amount of plates (at least 1,800) to the Encyclopédie by Diderot & d'Alembert from 1751. Originally, the engravings were printed entirely in black and white (this one by steel), and then hand-watercolored. Hand sourced in Paris. Professionally framed.
